I am the class teacher within a pre-prep school. I teach in a Reception class of 20 children. I plan all lessons in-depth with the Reception team. I ensure the classroom is set up to a high standard with engaging open-ended activities that allow children to reach their full potential in learning, I also allow for child led learning and provide enhancements for this. In September on entry I assessed children according to the Early years framework and again in Spring to track progress. I do half-termly maths and phonics assessments and ensure all children are suitably challenged. I set targets and keep learning diaries, which are shared with the children and their parents to track their work and progress. I maintain relationships with parents and offer an open-door policy whereby parents can come in and look at their children’s work or come and talk to me about any issues that may arise. Show less

I was the Reception teacher and PE coordinator. I planned and taught for a class of 24. I also supported with the planning in Nursery. I was responsible for the support staff in my room. I had one teaching assistant in the room all day and two further assistants in the afternoon. I plan for these support staff to do intervention groups for all children to support with their learning. I also had a child with a 1:1 member of staff. I had weekly meetings with my team so everybody is involved and aware of what is going on. I share my planning and welcome ideas from everybody. I ran a dance club through lunchtime for KS1 children and I also ran a Netball club for KS2. I oversaw all PE in the school and am responsible for all sports fixtures and the organising of them. I was a carer for several children with several different needs. Ranging from profound and multiple learning difficulties to Autism. I engaged with them in different activities that are suitable. I fed and toileted those children that needed support and helped the families with the general care of their children. I planned suitable activities and adapted them in order for the child to gain the most from them. I also looked after their siblings when needed to give families respite. I also administer medicines at the family’s discretion for those that need them, I am responsible for this and ensure that they are given properly. I also had the duty of feeding children through gastrostomy tubes if they are nil my mouth, I have the sufficient training for this. I also am confident with Makaton and the use of PODD and PEC and use this where needed within my work with children. Show less

I worked within the early years department of Papillon for the last half term of Summer to cover Maternity. Here I planned lessons for 6 children with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) I also was responsible for the organisation of 6 Special Needs Assistants (SNA). I attended weekly staff INSET and completed children’s reports and a parents evening. I ensured activities were differentiated to meet the individual needs of each child and I worked alongside Speech and Language therapists and Occupational Therapists to ensure children had a specialised education to meet their needs. I was assisting the class teacher with the learning of the students, I monitored behaviour and put interventions in place which met their individual needs. I planned lessons and activities for pupils and delivered these sessions. I worked one to one with a pupil each day and assisted them when necessary. I was responsible for the care of a child each day and their learning. When out on community visits health and safety would be assessed and as an SNA I would ensure risks were kept minimal. My duty at the end of the day would be to report back to the rest of the class about how the child’s day was and way of improving/managing behaviours if necessary. Here I used Makaton and PEC symbols as a form of communication with non-verbal children. I was team-teach trained in order to safely de-escalate and positively hold children for their own safety.
