I work as a case load midwife in a continuity model of care 0.5 and as a research midwife at Griffith university for the other 0.5. The Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) involves caring for women through the whole continuum of care, (antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal). I work in partnership with one other midwife within a small group of four. The MGP outcomes over the last 3 years are some of the best in Australia with a caesarean section rate of just under 7%, nearly 70% of our women choosing not to use pharmacological pain relief and more than 90% of our woman still breastfeeding at six weeks postnatal. Three quarters of our women also choose to use water immersion for labour with over a third giving birth in water. Working in a midwifery group practice providing women and their families with continuity of care is highly satisfying, I'm able to give women the care that they deserve with incredible outcomes for women and their babies.I'm also privilege to be working as a research assistant to Professor Jennifer Fenwick. I started this role in February 2014 and have so far been involved in projects involving - birth space, outcomes of continuity models and surveys. this as well as being part of a forward thinking research team. In September 2014 I was lucky enough to present three papers at the Queensland Australian College of Midwives state conference involving work that we have done at Griffith. Show less
