This job has given me life skills beyond my years and exposure to situations that not many other people would have. Working under pressure in strenuous environments and quick, effective decision making are just a couple of the skills I have gained. I have had to learn to think clearly and logically whilst in highly stressful environments, yet be able to look at the bigger picture of an incident, and concentrate on the specific task at hand. I am able to work as a member of the team but am also confident stepping up and leading that team. I am used to being constantly challenged and I am able to reassess adapt quickly to overcome problems. Part of our job is to be constantly training, I am used to always striving to be better. I’m a quick learner as I am not averse to constructive criticism.I deal with the general public on a regular basis, whether it be: helping them make their home safer by educating them on fire safety; going into schools and teaching children about fire safety, or at an incident of varying kinds. As a result of this my communication and interpersonal skills have developed so I am confident in all situations when it comes to engaging with the general public. Something this job has taught me that not many other jobs could, is how to deal with upsetting and sensitive situations. I have been able to cope and remain calm in these circumstances, concentrating on the task and remaining respectful to the situation and the surrounding people involved.
