Experience

    • Non-profit Organization Management
    • 1 - 100 Employee
    • Executive Director
      • Jul 2016 - Present

What resilient kids and families we serve at the Center! We have a welcoming runaway/homeless youth shelter, healing and loving foster homes, and dynamic STAR program that helps parents and teens reconnect and cope thru life's challenges. The challenges of leading the organization as we head toward our 100th anniversary serving children who have been thru more than most can imagine are many: need investment in our property, refreshed branding and outreach, additional dynamic board members, and new fund development strategies. I hope I'm up to the challenge!

It's been great fun to teach at UTEP in both the Social Work and Women's Studies Departments as an Adjunct Faculty member. I've taught Human Sexuality for Helping Professionals (a bachelor's/master's course I developed for the University), Introduction to Social Work, Social Work Practicum, and Social Justice in the Workplace. I also filled a part-time role as a Practice Instructor for a year. Teaching is one of my passions, so this has been a great fit. • Grant Writer
      • 1999 - Present

I transitioned from being the founding CEO of Big Brothers Big Sisters of El Paso to grant writing for Big Brothers Big Sisters programs serving children in 9 cities in Texas earlier this year. I've been with Big Brothers Big Sisters since 1999 and have secured millions in grants to serve thousands of at-risk youth, while leading our local agency on fund development and delivering program services. At the same time, my work led me to substantial state and national involvement as a trainer, writer, and advocate for small nonprofits within our network.
