I work at a GASS funded, Charity School for young people who have been diagnosed as Blind or Visually Impaired. We have a very child and family centered approach and the education is genuinely led by the needs and interests of the young people whilst firmly based in the principles and practices of The Curriculum for Excellence . The school recently achieved Excellent in our Inspection. To meet the needs, and requests, of the young people I teach a wide variety of topics and involve outside experts where necessary. In short we've covered everything from Internet safety through to co-developed courses on mindfulness. I head up the Eco Schools group and we recently received our Green Flag Renewal. I have developed and taught a variety of outdoor learning courses through our IDL sessions. I teach Braille and employ a wide range of communication systems including sign language, on-body signing and the Deaf Blind Manual. I do assessments and write reports to support young people's use of vision. I support young people to write, set targets and review these through Individualised Education Programme's I attend and lead reviews and CSP meetings for the young people I teach. I have been involved in ASDAN verification and have a very good grasp of SQA qualifications so use these to get pupils accredited for their work in class. As a middle manager at the school I line manage a group of staff. This involves involvement in HR and return to work procedures. I lead school improvement planning groups and organise events within the school. I have experience in planning multi agency meetings and working closely with the child, the family and multiple agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for young people. I have developed a school induction programme and plan to work closely with
