  • Interned at the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) through HiSTEP 2.0 Program • Mentored and supervised through Grace Padgett and Hubert Fan at Dr. Muniyappa’s Lab • Researched the ethnic differences in the relationship between Free Fatty Acids and well known indices such as Lipoprotein Insulin Resistance Score (LPIR) to help prevent individuals or stop from getting T2D • The methodologies that were used was Adipose Tissue Insulin Sensitivity (ADIPO-SI) derived from Frequently Sampled Intravenous Glucose Tolerance Test (FSIVGTT) FSIVGTT • Overall, the study has shown that both LPIR and ADIPO-SI are good predictors of insulin resistance in South Asians and in Caucasians, as we hope to further understand ethnic differences in FFA kinetics using mathematical modeling Show less
