As a previous attendee of one of Bernard’s Know and Do

Mhairi Gordon-Preston

Bernard enabled me to get outside the standard ways of thinking and to see situations, successes, and needs, much more clearly. His facilitation made it possible to get to the nub of what service-users want, to focus on oragnisational core strengths, and to fuse the two for a range of innovative and utterly do-able ways forward.

Teaching schools are good and outstanding schools that work with others to provide high-quality training and development to new and experienced school staff. Warrington Teaching School Alliance (WTSA) formed in 2016 and specialises in supporting Primary and Early Years settings. Led by a strategic group of schools, and supported by a larger group of alliance Associate Members, WTSA works across the North West of England to drive school improvement forward. Applications for trainee teachers to join our school direct programme in September 2020 are still being taken with online interviews to ensure safety. We offer Primary, Early Years & SEN routes with 3 terms of local placements, master training and a bespoke teacher led programme of professional development.

With a great team I delivered a £1.3m, 4-year European Funded programme from inception to conclusion, completing the contract on-time, within budget and exceeding targets. We secured £800k in additional income from multiple sources to expand the programme. I am most proud of co-designing & delivering a unique 7-day leadership programme called 'Inspiring Leaders' across the North of England to 200 learners; post-programme 86% of participants were measured at higher long-term levels of leadership competencies.

I spent 5 great years at Exeter YMCA in a constantly changing role. I was responsible for managing the supported accomodation to homeless and vulnerable young people which included a hostel and move-on homes. I also co-ordinated the community activities which included amongst many duties education classes in prison, personal development programmes for "NEET" young people and a community cafe.
