Founded and lead a nascent crime analysis unit within the Salina Police Department, developing and implementing multiple means of disseminating actionable intelligence derived from the raw data available through the department's RMS. Adopted primary responsibility for intelligence analysis for the I70-I135 Drug Task Force, operating out of the Salina Police Department, which handles narcotics investigations for the highway interchange and surrounding areas. Developed weekly target crime area maps using ArcGIS to isolate and identify developing and ongoing patterns in criminal activity with a focus on property crimes. While crime as a whole experienced a 6.2% increase between 2018 and 2019, major property crime reported a 4.3% decrease, reaching a five year low. Property crime was down by 23.7% in the fourth quarter. Published monthly, quarterly, and annual reports which include both a summary of the department's raw data and shortform analyses of the implications of the department's numbers for both the department and the city as a whole. Published internal, external LEO-only, and public access bulletins for offenders under investigation, active crime trend alerts, and other requests or sharing of information. Worked closely with adjoining jurisdictions, including the local sheriff's office and the state investigative bureau (KBI). Coordinated efforts with Secret Service and Federal Bureau of Investigation for several major investigations. Identified developing threats through social media analysis leading to multiple ongoing investigations and several successful arrests. Followed up on evaluated tips from local crimestoppers and the KBI. Presented findings and updates at patrol briefings, department meetings, and command staff briefings. Show less

I spent two months in training, learning to speak Kiswahili and receiving training in educational practices, before I began teaching Physics and English at Kilimatinde Secondary School. I also took the opportunity to affect positive change where I could: I negotiated a contract between students and teachers which forbade corporal punishment but offered mutually acceptable alternatives, I organized female empowerment clinics focusing on sexual health, legal rights, and socially acceptable ways of rejecting unwanted attention, and I instigated still-ongoing free STD and pregnancy testing for all sexually active students.
