Legal Internship
-
Sep 2023 - Sep 2023
I had the opportunity to undertake a legal placement at Mishcon de Reya, a renowned UK law firm, and the experience was both insightful and enriching. The induction was facilitated by Patrick Connolly, who provided a comprehensive overview of Mishcon’s diverse practice areas. He delved into the firm’s ethos, highlighting its commitment to serving a broad range of clients, from individuals to small and medium-sized businesses. Furthermore, he elucidated the distinction between solicitors and barristers, emphasising the multifaceted nature of the legal profession. A notable part of the week was the Q&A session with current trainees. This allowed for a candid discussion on their experiences at Mishcon, offering invaluable insights and advice on application processes and the dynamics of the firm. Throughout the week, I was within the innovation department, focusing on competition law. This involves a deep dive into the intricacies of Article 101, its role in preventing anti-competitive agreements, and its significance in maintaining a competitive market landscape. This placement provided hands-on experience, including the opportunity to attend key meetings, draft an article concerning a high-profile case, centered around LFAs and DBAs, and conduct detailed legal research. Supplemental to this were sessions introducing other departments within Mishcon de Reya. These ranged from real estate and employment to MDRX and Mishcon private. I was also introduced to the firm’s operations in Singapore, broadening my understanding of its global reach. I was fortunate to engage in a discussion with esteemed barristers including a KC, and a pupil. They shed light on issues like funding, provided valuable insights into the Inns of Court, and addressed common misconceptions about the chambers. This placement concluded with a recruitment briefing, offering guidelines and advice for prospective trainees looking to secure a training contract within the firm. Show less

Pathways To Law

Oct 2020 - May 2022
Being in a competitive 2-year law placement pathway with the University of Liverpool has enhanced many of my current skills, such as teamwork, working under pressure, independent work, which has assisted me to develop to the next stage of my education. Outside the taught curriculum, I attended an open day, hosted by solicitors, barristers, and members of the CPS, who presented a perception of the law. By providing cases that they have dealt with and the procedures undergone during trial. Insight Day
-
Aug 2021 - Aug 2021
The day included several talks, and I particularly enjoyed the talk on Pro Bono, where I learned more about Mishcon's Immigration Team. This has encouraged me to learn more about Immigration Law. I also attended two workshops, in Corporate and in Family. In the Corporate workshop, I took part in a mock negotiation exercise, where I had to represent my 'client's' interest to purchase goods. In the Family workshop, I represented my 'client' at a mock trial. The day was a great insight into life at a London law firm. In particular, I feel that my advocacy and commercial awareness improved as a result of the day. My personalised feedback from the lawyers who hosted the workshops stated that I "had good instincts and asked the right questions". Show less
