I launched my hand made accessories business as part of my college course. As a firm believer in supporting local trade, this is something I really wanted to transfer into my businesses. Setting up this business taught me a lot about how businesses operate. From finding manufacturers, working out profit margins to making sales. This was a real eye opener and the experience really encouraged me to look into finding full time work so I could learn even more and get stuck in. Studying Enterprise and running a business. Leader of winning team in a 'Social Media' Challenge set by Martin Spiller. Winner of Grant Thornton 'Putting the trust back into banking' challenge. Pitched to HSBC bank Head of Organisation Development, Simon Lamb. He said... 'It was an absolute pleasure and to be frank a wholly refreshing experience. I really appreciated the simplicity of the message that the students played out - no hidden agendas, just honest simple and clear ideas that were spoken from the heart. Big organisations need this kind of intervention because they become so removed from the customer that they forget why they exist. I am sure I was left more inspired by them than they could ever have been by us. Well done once again!' Show less

    • Junior Office Assistant/Salesman

As part of my course at college I chose to undertake a months work experience. I decided to go to Pearce Compaction Ltd (formally Kenbay) in Ringwood, Hampshire. The waste and renewable industry really interests me and I wanted to learn more about it. During my time down there I researched potential waste trade customers to sell compactors to. I then put them into a database and created some literature to send to them notifying them of what machines the company currently had in stock. I also helped with day to day office tasks such as taking customer phone calls and filing job sheets from engineers. In my final week I was concentrating more on the sales side of the business this included making trips to potential customers with the Sales director and making calls to chase up other potential customers that he had visited over the past month. • Jul 2012 - Sep 2012

Whilst in this role I helped with the re-branding of the company creating a new logo and updating company documents where necessary, this included building a new website (www.tgwcompactionservices.com). I then helped with creating a data base of existing customers and warm leads to assist a mail shot. Once the data was imputed I designed some promotional material to be sent out to the companies existing and potential customers. When required I also got stuck in with the maintenance and refurbishment side of the business, out travelling with the engineers carrying out repair work, installing and servicing machines.
