Over the course of eighteen months, Captain Ben Milo did an outstanding job as the Battalion Headquarters and Headquarters Company Commander. He had the right personality to motivate nine staff sections towards a common purpose; supporting the Battalion's deployable companies and facilitating the deployment of three of the four to Europe. He directly managed the Battalion's maintenance, keeping on average of 64 of the unit's 65 vehicles and associated equipment ready to support any mission at all times. Ben has a talent for managing personnel, supply and maintenance processes under pressure, always exceeding expectations and meeting his suspenses. He will improve any organization.

1. I am writing this letter with the strongest possible recommendation for Benjamin Milo. Ben’s competency, professionalism, and maturity has clearly set a high standard as a member of the 80th Civil Affairs Battalion. His ability to lead and work as part of a team to achieve goals with strategic impacts would be beneficial to any organization. He has proven his ability to understand complex problems, but second and third order effects as well. 2. Benjamin Milo and I have served together over the last 18 months. During that time, Ben was instrumental in the planning and deployment of Civil Affairs forces to the European Theater in order to assure the nation’s allies that the United States will deter aggression from outside powers. As a result of Ben’s efforts, the battalion was the first active duty conventional battalion to deploy forces on a rotational basis in support of a names operation. Ben’s company was instrumental in the coordination, communication, and logistics between European Command (EUCOM), US Army Europe (USAREUR), and maneuver units both at Fort Bliss and Fort Hood, Texas. As the Operations Officer of the battalion, I worked with Ben through synchronization between these forces and Special Operations Command-Europe (SOCEUR) to coordinate between maneuver forces. Ben ensured the teams were not only resourced and trained, but were capable of communicating effectively while conducting Civil-Military Operations in a politically sensitive environment with the proper support. This was due to his extensive experience in the field and as a manager of several staff sections. 3. Ben's intellect and dedication is a true example of a leader in the profession of arms. His candid advice and clear expertise is highly respected from both his subordinates and senior officers alike. Ben is one of the most talented officers I have served with over 14 years in the army. 4. Point of contact for this memo is the undersigned at (915) 568-4940 or Stephen.p.ward.mil@mail.mil.
