Arranges for the maximum use of vessel space and cargo movement, including arrangements that take into account the port’s loading facilities; the number of cranes, the availability of dock space and scheduling by shippers or recipients, based on shipper’s manifests. I consider the physical condition of the ship and the effect on the ship’s stability of the cargo that awaits loading.I revise and resolve the differences a load makes in the ship’s stability and trim characteristics.I also notifie the stevedoring company of the manpower and equipment required to unload and reload the ship. When the ship lands, I inspect the cargo area and notes the stowage conditions aboard. I works with the stevedore’s foreman and the ship’s chief mate – a ship’s cargo officer – to load the ship according to the cargo stowage plan or, with the concurrence of the chief mate, make changes to the cargo plan. I also make adjustments to the loading process for the safety of the ship.
