For the summer of 2023, I worked in the Community Engagement department of BUILD Chicago, a gang intervention, violence prevention and youth development organization. I was responsible for helping organize community events with BUILD Chicago’s partners and agencies, as well many local organizations. Along with supporting BUILD’s summer programming for youth, I was able to assist in with the Community Engagement department administrative needs. Criminal Legal Advocate Assistant

As a criminal legal advocate assistant at Tubman, I assist in filing contacts and case notes, calling clients and serving as the bridge of communication in a sometimes very complicated court process. I attend court for clients, and provide updates. During the summer, I worked full term as a Servant Leader Intern at a nonforprofit summer program, Freedom Schools, in which I taught literacy to kids aged 8-10. In my role, I was responsible for lesson planning days out in which I would teach a curriculum in a fun, engaging way, with the focus on raising literacy rates to at risk youth in the Saint Paul area. During the summer, I worked full term as a Servant Leader Intern at a nonforprofit summer program, Freedom Schools, in which I taught literacy to kids aged 8-10. We come in every Friday to teach a curriculum centered around racial and environmental justice.
