The primary function of NDT during my time with them has been Institutional Development and Capacity Building for community-based organizations (CBOs). The CBOs most targeted were conservancies and community forests due to the current grant project funding. Our aim was to strengthen their financial management practices and to train the management committees and conservancy/community forest members on their roles and responsibilities, especially with regards to the Standard Operating Procedures set forth by the Ministry of Environment & Tourism and the Ministry of Agriculture, Water, and Forestry. Another big part of this role was to assist with the identification of income generating activities (IGAs) for the CBOs we served, as well as others in the North Central regions of Namibia. The majority of projects have been micro-drip irrigation systems for community gardens, as well as solar-powered pumps. We still have yet to come up with an IGA for NDT itself. Since assuming my new role as Peace Corps Volunteer Leader, my time involved with my partner organization has diminished greatly, but I continue to assist with financial report reviews and secondary project trainings.
