For this diverse school district, I served as a data analyst intern under the direction of the assistant director and research specialist of accountability. My tasks were primarily concerned with describing, graphing, and writing about student data for district reports and other dissemination activities. A large part of this job also involved merging databases in MS Access to fulfill data requests or prepare data for analysis. Initially my work was for the summer only, but I continued other tasks through that school year and into the following school year. Show less

For this nonprofit research organization, I have served in two major capacities. First, I was part of a testing team for data collection during the 2011-12 and 2012-2013 academic years on two federally funded efficacy trials of vocabulary instruction. Kindergarten through fifth grade students were individually assessed on measures relating to reading, spelling, processing, vocabulary, and comprehension, requiring approximately 1- to 2- hours per child per test. This role required not only patience with children at risk for reading failure but also in following strict protocols for several different norm-referenced test guidelines. Measures include Peabody Picture Vocabulary Test, Woodcock Reading Mastery Tests, Iowa Test of Basic Skills, Wide Range Achievement Tests, and researcher-developed tasks. Importantly, I transitioned into the data manager and analyst role in November 2012, which included scoring tests, entering data into numerous MS Excel databases, cleaning data for errors, creating pivot tables, and conducting analyses using SPSS and HLM software. My master’s thesis data was drawn from two cohorts of teachers and students, and involved testing cross-level relationships between teacher literacy instruction variables and student gains for fourth- and fifth-grade classrooms.
