Benjamin is not only a brilliant engineer but also a passionate mentor. Whilst working with him for six months I learnt more than in the previous two years of work. This is due to his impressive knowledge and his clear drive to help other achieve their potential. His work leading the Golang Dorset Meetup also displays his attitude to improving others and asking for nothing in return. Because of his wide knowledge and problem solving skills Ben was always the best person to ask for advice and guidance. Also, his own work served as an example of how clean code should be written. The combination of skills and leadership made Benjamin a joy to work for. He would be a valuable asset to any company and I would jump at the opportunity to work with him again.

Ben is one of those guys passionate about efficiency and always on top of the latest developments in his space, but never does he let the allure of a shiny new tech stack override what he knows to be right for the project. I could always count on him to apply the best tech to solve our clients problems and he always took to a new problem with gusto.

In my role at LootLocker, I work on making our backend systems run better, introduce new tools for monitoring performance, and contribute to decisions about our tech architecture. I've worked on improving the performance of both our Go and PHP backends to make sure they run smoothly and respond quickly. I brought in Prometheus for performance metrics which helps us monitor our systems in real-time and make better decisions. My work at LootLocker involves a mix of improving performance, developing new features, and helping our platform grow and succeed. Show less

At Benefex, my work as a Staff Software Engineer was focused on improving our tech stack and service efficiency. - Go Transition: I created several internal libraries to assist in moving the company's systems from older services to Go. - Process Improvement: I helped to define and tweak the process for reworking and architecting these services in Go, making the transition smoother. - Monitoring Enhancement: I introduced Prometheus metrics to our Go services, which improved our system monitoring capabilities. - File Upload Support: To improve our handling of file uploads, I built an asset optimization pipeline. This made uploads quicker and more efficient for our users. In a nutshell, my role at Benefex involved making our tech more efficient, our processes smoother, and our service better. Show less

As the team leader of the Digital Experience team, I was tasked with making this very new team functional. This includes defining process, auditing every piece of code that the team owned, producing architecture diagrams, finding the right strategic opportunities to make improvements on the existing, as well as drive forward a project seeking to replace the customer portal, written as a PHP monolith into a micro-frontend application powered by React and GraphQL, pushing forward quality improvements to our customer facing clubhouse app to reduce call volume and support ticket numbers, as well as the usual 1-1, mentoring and management aspects of the role. This focus on quality resulted in the UW app (also powered by those services) to go from a 2.1 star to 4.5 star rating on the App Store.
