    • Junior SOC analyst
      • Dec 2021 - Jun 2022

Role involved performing gap-analysis of business security looking to achieve Cyber Essentials & Cyber Essentials Plus. Customers outlined devices and how they run their IT dept which was used to determine what new policies needed to be implemented (e.g. password, JML policy) as well getting a sense for different supported (or not) firmware for computers, phones and networking equipment. Use of the Qualys vulnerability agent to assess how compliant and secure devices are, as well as low-level penetration testing of networks on-site to identify login pages with default credentials which could be exploited. Remediation required daily vulnerability reports filtered from Qualys to the client and in some cases, learning how to resolve specific issues myself to help the customer and better represent the business. Linux/Mac/Windows devices were manually tested to ensure they had functioning antivirus, administrator/standard account separation, download prompts and 2FA on all cloud-services. This was fed back to the business who often amended via group-policy or with additional help with users over Teams. Mobile phones were tested for the latest OS and 6-digit pins. Upon remediation, a final report was created and submitted to the customer with their certificate. Other administrative duties included account creation in Qualys, the IASME Portal, and CybSafe, as well as responding to customer queries via Freshdesk. Technical skills of employees varied so it was important to gauge their level to provide better customer service. Regular use of Office 365 such as Excel and calendar helped maintain organisation and productivity within the business. Show less
