I‘m leading a team which deploys, maintains and upgrades IT solutions in multi-vendor client environments (over 10 clients). I plan, implement and ensure training and knowledge transfer is done as well as overseeing the team’s performance reviews. I also monitor and ensure client’s SLA response times are achieved. My other roles within the team include designing infrastructure solutions that align IT with business needs such as Azure, AWS, Hyper-V production and disaster recovery environments. I plan and execute migrations such as virtual-to-virtual, physical-to-virtual as well as Office 365 migrations. As the technical lead within the team, I manage private and public cloud environments and on premise virtualized environments on both VMware and Hyper-V. Other non-technical responsibilities include: assisting our small business clients manage their partner relationships as well as evaluating technical proposals to ascertain their commercial worthiness to the client. The following are the technologies handled as team lead & technical lead: Azure, AWS, Hyper-V Clusters, VMware, HP 3Par, HP ProLiant blade systems, MSA Storage systems, HP LeftHand Storage, SQL Clusters, Always ON Availability sets and DBaaS. Joined the company as an intern and rose through the ranks to a senior systems engineer responsible for deploying IT solutions at client environments on the following platforms HP, SUN Microsystems (Now Oracle), VMware. Main solutions deployed and maintained are VMWare with site recovery manager, HP blade systems and ProLiant servers. HP Superdome and RX & RP systems running HPUX v2 – v3. HP storage system such as 3Par, EVA systems, P4000 & P2000 series. Managing HP Data protector, NetBackup and tape libraries. On the Oracle platform (SUN & StorageTEK) I worked on the following technologies SUN StorageTEK 6000 series and SUN blade systems, T5500 Sparc systems and X4400 Sun Fire systems. Apart from deploying these technologies in green field projects and brown field projects. Other responsibilities included keeping the systems up to date with firmware updates, responding to break/fix calls and other customer escalations. Also helped customers manage any escalations to vendors. Key Contributions: Maintenance of hardware running core banking systems: As part of the enterprise team I was involved in supporting two tier 1 banks in Nairobi Kenya. A key requirement being response times and resolution times resulting in up times of 99%. Deployment of an E-learning systems around Ethiopia. As team lead running a project installing hardware in 16 remote locations around the country. I was able to lead the team and conduct onsite trainings and finally close the project. Successful deployment of 1st virtualisation project at a tier 1 bank: I was privileged to deploy the very first VMWare deployment with site recovery manager at a tier 1 bank. This was so successful it lead to more investments in virtualisation technologies.
