Miona aimed to mix microalgae with concrete as a way of carbon capture & utilization in the scope of large-scale carbon removal technologies. Miona started off as a competition team for the XPRIZE for Global Carbon Removal, and after participation in the StartHub Wageningen realization bootcamp week, we decided to continue as a start-up. After collaborations with TU Delft for prototyping, it was found that the technology did not work as intended and we decided to halt the project. Learnings as role of team-lead: - Involved in creating and maintaining an organized and well-spirited start-up team - Set up relations with external parties to aid us in our venture - Managing day-to-day operations. - Communicated Miona's mission and vision both in- and outside of the team - Participated in multiple competitions and pitching events - Created a network within the world of biomaterials, concrete, and microalgae Learnings as role of biotechnologist: - Created theoretical process flow for large scale application for Miona's solution - Created financial models for evaluation of production facilities - Interviewed experts in microalgae cultivation, microalgae markets, and concrete manufacturing.
