This year my role at Bristol Racing will be centred around improving the BR02 and tailoring it to the requirements of our driver. Our first project was centred around improving the steering mechanism, which required the team to work effectively as a unit, with a seamless method of storing and sharing concept sketches, notes and ideas to be able to design a steering mechanism that was up to the standard that our driver expected. My next task is to fix the design of the roll bar for the BR02.

    • Drivetrain Design Engineer
      • Sep 2022 - Oct 2023

Collaborating with engineers from various years and disciplines, I contributed to the design and construction of a fixed-gear drivetrain, currently being used in Bristol Racing's BR02 electric race car. Through effective visual and verbal communication with other sub-teams, we designed the drivetrain in a way that would mesh seamlessly with all other aspects of the car, which we put forward to compete in the Greenpower F24+ race series. At the beginning of first year, my experience in collaborative problem solving started off limited but quickly became an area where I found myself to thrive, drawing ideas from my basic automotive knowledge and passion for mountain biking, and developing my ability to criticize and question ideas in a constructive way. On top of that, this role has so far allowed me to gain an insight into how experienced engineering students think, work on presenting design ideas and thought processes to a large audience in a concise and easily understandable manner, and push myself to further my experience in Fusion 360 and 3D printing through modelling and manufacturing prototypes of different parts.
