Thesis Titled: 'How have the effects of governing discourse in Universities shaped the situated learning of academics and professional staff?' Researcher: The study takes the researcher’s position from primarily an educationalist, adult learning practitioner, to a sociologist speaking into the field of education policy and management. Background: As the Director of Customer Experience (2017-2019) for La Trobe, his team and work have been aimed at ensuring a personalised, agile, responsive and connected customer engagement (students, staff, community, partners and visitors) of all campus locations at La Trobe University. The goal of increased student national satisfaction rankings (SES Student Experience Survey) as part of the overall educational experience of the Australian Governments, QILT (Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching) technology and comparative assessment across all 42 universities. Also staff satisfaction increases measured by UNIFORUM rankings. Method: The PhD investigation relates to this work, comparing 2 Australian Universities, 1 high ranking and 1 lower ranking for QILT-SES and the effects of the workplace structures on the staff (academic and professional) and with what affect on their situated learnings? The study applies the Theoretical lens of 'Situated Learning' and 'Qualitative Research' methodology via interviews of tenured staff from each case study university.
