There can be few people, if any, who have as good an understanding of music royalties and licensing from an end-to-end perspective than Ben Johnson. At Rhapsody / Napster he was the key contact between the licensing / legal teams and the royalty reporting teams, responsible for designing, building and maintaining a royalty system that was proven to accurately calculate royalties from complex license agreements in over 30 territories and with hundreds of different licensors. Ben has the almost unique skill-set of understanding the terms of the license agreements (including the key issues in negotiating those licenses) and also understanding how to program a system to calculate those royalties. With his great understanding of the systems as well as the business, Ben was always extremely quick, efficient and effective at responding to requests for specific data. Watching him do his thing is a little bit like magic.
Daniel Parker
Ben built the Rhapsody royalty calculation software system from scratch which was a huge accomplishment. He quickly became the technical expert on all royalty calculations and reporting requirements. He built a scalable system the allowed Rhapsody to expand from 2-3 countries into 40. He support countless upgrades and fulfilled many audit requests. Beyond on that, he was a pleasure to work with. I would highly recommend Ben to any employer.

As a contractor, came in to advise and consult on a data warehousing engineering project for this company who previously has been using an elasticsearch / Kibana solution. I kicked off a POC using a Snowflake database, then converted to a FTE as a Data Engineer. Responsibilities now include setting-up real time data flows, designing and implementing Snowflake configurations (roles, databases, schemas, warehouses), architecting ETL monitoring capability, building data pipelines via an AWS S3 data lake, helping set up AWS Kinesis Firehoses to funnel events to our S3 bucket from event sources, and build out useful datamarts.
