Youth Safety Advisory Council
-
Jul 2020 - May 2021
The Youth Safety Advisory Council (YSAC) of Mikva Challenge is a subsection of an organization that strives to amplify the perspectives of upper-grade level high school students in Chicago through facilitating policy creation. Specifically, YSAC aspired to optimize the relationship between Chicago youth and police by creating a community-driven training program for Student Resource Officers that would foster understanding and collaboration between parties. As the lead writer of the proposed program, I led a focus group of seven students and presented the paper to a group of elected and non-elected officials. This effort resulted in a renewed dialogue between Chicago Public Schools, its students, and Chicago Police around safety through councils. Show less

The Youth Council of the 47th Ward is a community-driven group representing the 47th Ward of Chicago. The council participates within Ward's cultural and fiscal discussion, informs local and city policy in addition to pioneering projects such as drafting budgets and implementing safety and educational policy for the Chicago Public School District. As lead, I have acted as the public liaison for the council, created a virtual political advocacy organization camp, and enacted neighbor initiatives such as bike lanes and raised curbs near local schools and busy intersections.
