AAT ACCOUNTING QUALIFICATION Level 3 Diploma in Accounting This qualification introduced me to more complicated accounting tasks such as maintaining cost accounting records and the preparation of reports and returns. I now have skills to: Prepare year end accounts for sole traders and partnerships Prepare the trial balance (ETB) to draft the income statement and statement of financial position Make adjustments for accruals and prepayments Manage the non-current assets register and apply calculated depreciation Preparation of fixed and flexible budgets Complete VAT return accurately by classifying the VAT rate of supplies Prepare management accounts using a range of techniques including: • High-low technique to forecast revenue and costs • Marginal and overhead absorption costing • Break-even analysis, margin of safety, target profit contribution sales ratio and limiting factors. Level 2 Certificate in Accounting This qualification taught me a range of basic accounting principles and techniques, from costing and double-entry bookkeeping to computerised accounting. I now have skills to: Process payments and receipts and record transactions in the relevant journals and ledgers Prepare the initial trail balance using suspense accounts Complete the banking reconciliation Effectively use a computerised accounting system SAGE & Quickbooks Prepare manufacturing accounts, inventory valuations and explain butgey variances.
