      - My second day of placement I helped cover the awful murders in Nottingham. This included me getting vox pops from people on the morning of the incident, social videos, researching and interviewing appropriate interviewees, in this case it was Reverend Jo Tatum and researching story ideas for the station. - One thing I have learnt during my first week was how to approach people gently and sensitively. This was my first ever murder case I have covered, thus I had to learn how to gather content from very emotional and distressed people. I was sent to collect vox pops after and before the vigils held in Nottingham, I found this hard as emotions were extremely high, so it was important that I approached people with extreme care. This is a skill I believe I have, as I knew how to make them feel comfortable to talk to me and that they could trust me. These vox pops were broadcast on Gem and so was all the other interviews such as Jo Tatum. - Digital- digital is also massively important and so I ensured I was gathering digital content for Gem to use, for example pictures, videos and video interviews that could be posted on all of Gem’s socials for more reach. - I also came in with story ideas, for example after looking on Tweet Deck I found that people were complaining about how horrific the accessibility at Download festival was, so I found interviewees and someone from Download festival who worked in this department that I then passed on to Bauer. I was extremely proactive and constantly looking for interviewees and new angles to refresh stories from each bulletin. - Bulletin reads- this week commencing on the 19th of June I will be shadowing and doing bulletin reads to learn what makes a strong read, how each script must be altered for each station to suit its demographic and how to make what you read memorable. - Scripting is a skill I want to nail and so this week I will also be focusing on this, to make me a stronger journalist. I had my own radio show at my local station back home in Bristol, SomerValley fm. I had a 2 hour show 1-3, where it was fun upbeat interactive show, however with a new audience- not students. Therefore, I had to adjust content to ensure it was appropriate for the different and older demographic than I was used to, during this time I got to work alongside Seb Bailey who has worked for BBC Radio 1, Greatest Hits, Rock Fm and BBC Radio Bristol. I learnt more of the art of radio alongside how to present my show from another perspective, all skills I will carry with me for life. As I post my shows every week on my social media to get interaction, I happen to reach Lloyd Canfield who works for The Sun, he in fact wrote a lovely tweet about my show and then wrote about me in his blog. A huge achievement and something I was truly buzzing with! Show less

Smooth East Midlands presenter Gareth Evans listened to my 2021 show Teatime Hustle and contacted me after listening to the two hour show and asked me to come into the Smooth radio studio! I got the opportunity to become producer for his show, and I did this every Friday from October 2021-May 2022 and will be returning this year in 2022. Skills obtained: - Researching appropriate content for links, keeping it appropriate to the target audience and demographic. - Creating a segue that was played live on air! - After a song by Paul Young was played, I researched and created a link for Gareth to say which was how Smooth artist Paul Young are supporting The Great Teddy Bear Project by auctioning teddy bears made from their jeans, Paul Young then liked our tweet on twitter about the link I created! My friends and I from student station FlyLive got the opportunity to present a show for BBC Radio Nottingham's We Are Notts. This was so much fun and taught us all the art of presenting- keeping links short yet engaging and just how to hook audiences so they keep listening! I got to shadow the amazing producing team behind The Graham Norton Show. I got to learn what makes a great link and how to bring to life- it's about how content is teased and how audiences can engage with it. I also got to meet Martin Kemp! • Tamworth Christmas Light Switch On
      • Nov 2021 - Nov 2021

Smooth Radio's presenter Gareth Evans was asked to present Tamworth's Christmas light switch on in 2021, and excitingly I got asked to come with him to help produce the show. This involved me seeing the behind the scenes of the switch on, meeting and greeting the guests who performed, including Tamworth Mayor Michael Oates, checking the schedule for the day and any information Gareth should be aware about the performers along with capturing footage. This was a truly magical day, even better as it decided to snow making it a real Christmas event! It was inspiring to watch Gareth present and to make an audience come to life, it taught me how to engage with audiences and the art of creating an atmosphere- something Gareth certainly did.
