Spearheaded the design of a data pipeline from Copper CRM and Asana project management tool to AWS Redshift and worked with programs to design a system of data entry to reduce manual data entry by 15%. This project was primarily written in Python, and gave me the opportunity to work with AWS Lambda, AWS CloudWatch, Ansible, Jenkins, Zapier, and APIs. Conduct internal research to determine solutions to automate and reduce manual data entry. Collaborated with various programs to understand interdepartmental processes, where data is stored and originates, and how and why existing tools are utilized. Research APIs and external products to streamline processes, comparing costs and learning curve of adoption vs internally developing tools.Document, track. and debug internal Flask apps utilized by an organization of ~40. Implement minor updates to improve usability. Optimize SQL queries and create VBA Macros in Microsoft Excel for non-technical staff to use temporarily while automations are being built out. Oversee standardization and documentation of external reporting process for client managers. Show less

Prepared and reviewed client-facing reports quantifying effectiveness, outlining survey results, and defining key metrics of previous and ongoing text campaigns. Assembled and organized non-uniform datasets to support the organization wide adoption of a CRM. Encoded 4 years worth of past SMS campaign responses to back populate into AWS Redshift. Leveraged APIs to support the development of a data pipeline to transfer data from BLINK link management tool to AWS Redshift. Performed ad-hoc data cleaning and data pulls with SQL and Python (pandas). Show less

Utilizing NASA's Earth Observatory System Data and Information System (EOSDIS), I examined global satellite images before and after the 2018 Camp Fire to determine wildfire indexes (vegetation index, humidity, temperature, etc.) and develop risk assessment models wildfire occurrence probabilities within a region. I also analyzed political discourse leading up to the 2018 Camp Fire to address policy development as a tool to reduce wildfire hazards. Through this research, I was given the opportunity to attend the 2019 APRU Multi Hazards Summer School, where I collaborated with various natural disaster specialists in education, health, policy, engineering, and local government to develop solutions aimed at addressing obstacles of risk mitigation, preparation, response, and recovery utilizing an interdisciplinary approach. During my first year as a transfer student, I devoted some of my time to cultivating a community that caters to underrepresented individuals within my own Physics department. I developed workshops surrounding stigmatized topics in STEM to facilitate dialogue on unconscious biases and allyship to navigate various discriminatory climates within physics. I also curated safe spaces to develop a community amongst struggling undergraduate physicists. In collaboration with the graduate Diversity and Inclusion in Physics group (DIP), we established a DEI-centric mentorship program that connects undergraduates to current PhD students within the department. Through this collaboration I co-developed an annual climate survey given to affiliated members of the UCD Physics Department. This survey allows DIP to track, monitor, and quantify the success of implemented department initiatives in relation to community values. Show less

I analyzed conditions following and preceding the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, CA to determine how wildfire contributing factors can be quantified in conjunction with social and cultural implications of natural disasters to convey / frame research to benefit policy developers and reduce the number of causalities affected by natural disasters. Through examining the current scholarship, I found gaps in communication between natural disaster researchers, communities affected, and policy makers. The public understanding of natural disaster science was not in line with researcher findings, and data-driven policy was lacking. I also found that loss metrics utilized are dependent on average socioeconomic statuses of the population most affected. Specifically, greater loss of life occurred in developing regions, contrasted to greater economic loss within well established regions. I presented these findings at the 2019 Office of Educational Opportunity and Enrichment Services Summer Fellowship Research Symposium. Show less

I co-conducted a peace rally with ~90 Khmer Rouge genocide survivors outside the International Criminal Court in the Netherlands to submit an appeal calling for an investigation into the human rights violations executed by Cambodia's current governing body. Since then, the appeal has been acknowledged and the process to investigate Cambodia's current governing body began early 2019. My parents were victims of the Khmer Rogue Genocide that moved to the US as refugees in the 70's. Since a young age, I have been aware of my family's background and have been raised as a Cambodian American. My parents have worked endlessly to seek justice for their fallen kinsmen for as long as I can remember and as I grew older, their endeavor became my own. Show less

I spearheaded the development of a working class ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) capable of completing industry related tasks such as sediment sampling and gathering RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) data underwater via Bluetooth underbudget by ~$15,000 for the 2017 MATE International ROV Competition. My main priorities consisted of management, 3D prototyping, 3d modeling via SOLIDWORKS, and circuit board assembly. I documented club correspondence records regarding finance, member contributions, and collaborations as well as the ROV’s development through research, design, and production over the course of 2 years. Outside of the competition, our team would volunteer at local STEM events and I had the chance to help during NOAA Day at the Aquarium at the Pacific, thus beginning my interest in Geology and Geophysics.
