Roupina A.
As the Head of the English Department at Dar Al-Marefa Private School in Dubai it gives me great pleasure to write this letter in support of Ms. Basma El-Shimy. Ms. Shimy is an experienced IB DP English B and MYP English A teacher. During this time, she has shown an aptitude to plan and implement lessons that are scaffolded, differentiated, pedagogically sound and student-centered. She has made significant strides in developing student skills that are transferrable to other courses and help ensure student success. In addition, Ms. El-Shimy has taught in the MYP and DP Curriculum section for the secondary school and has had success supporting students who struggle with the language. Ms. El-Shimy is well versed in aspects of the IB such as DP English A as well and was a supervisor for a number of students in many English and extra curricular activities. Outside of the classroom, she is engaged. She supports school activities such as drama and book exhibitions. This year, she worked in designing curriculum for specific MYP grade levels. This type of contribution supports staff morale and is beneficial to a positive work environment and decision making. One thing that separates Ms. El-Shimy apart from many of her peers is her ability to relate to teachers who teach MYP or DP from different nationalities with different cultural backgrounds, she can thus relate to a multi-cultural environment and help bridge gaps. It is my firm belief that she would be an asset to any school and contribute to its success. It is thus without hesitation that I recommend Ms. El-Shimy for consideration. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me via roupinajack@gmail.com. Best, Roupina Akijian
