As a deckhand/first mate aboard the Elizabeth, a 42 ft. sloop-style sailboat based in Sag Harbor, NY, I had many responsibilities. Working with Captain Nate Richter, the founder and CEO of Hamptons True Sailing, I brought groups of up to 4 passengers on charter trips ranging from 2-8 hours out on the water. In addition to shorter day sails, I have sailed the boat on longer trips to places like Newport, RI and Block Island, RI. As a student-deckhand aboard "Vela", a 112 ft. schooner in SeaMester's fleet, I worked tirelessly with a committed and diverse crew of 30 souls to journey approximately 2700 nautical miles up and down the Lesser Antilles islands in the Caribbean. For three months, I learned the ins and outs of sailing and diving, as well as received a first-hand education in Marine Biology and Oceanography. As a host at Balthazar, my role was all-encompassing, and my responsibilities were vast. I greeted guests at the door, brought them to their tables, managed the seating chart, supervised and kept track of customer behavior and needs, and helped customers make/change/cancel reservations. I was also responsible for opening and/or closing the restaurant. Balthazar is one of the most famous and respected restaurants in New York City, if not the entire world. It was a privilege and an honor to be a member of their team. My time as a host at this culinary powerhouse was profoundly educational. Show less

I gained experience in the service industry during my time as a cashier at the bustling and up-and-coming cafe Ella Mia. The cafe is an exciting new venture and aims to reinvent and improve upon the customer experience. My role as a part of the opening team was broad and all-encompassing. In addition to being a cashier, I helped with countless jobs and tasks in order to make sure the cafe would stay successful past its opening phase. It did - and I am proud that I was an integral member of that team. Show less

    • Host
      • Aug 2019 - Nov 2019

My first position in the service industry was being a host at Paloma at Hotel Hendricks. This provided me with invaluable experience, restaurant terminology, and a deep understanding of the importance of team work. With long hours and overtime, I was one of the main hosts in a bustling and lively environment. This required me being on my feet all day, adapting to whatever I was needed for, and being a cheerful, patient, and reliable face of the restaurant. I worked my hardest to ensure that my customers had the most satisfactory experience possible. Show less

Almost immediately after I graduated from high school, I began babysitting children of my teachers and family friends to gain extra income. These months of babysitting gave me vital experience in caretaking and putting the needs of others before my own. Bread & Puppet is a radical, revolutionary, and larger-than-life political-activist puppet theater based at a communal farm in Glover, VT. As an apprentice there for 6 weeks, I worked tirelessly to keep the farm and shows running. On the farm side, I helped cook in the kitchen, clean the barn and stages, and bake bread. For our weekly circuses, I painted, sculpted with paper mache, wrote and performed in skits, and even played with the band. My time at B&P was impactful beyond words and provided me with an experience that I will carry with me for my entire life. Show less
