  Project: Stella – Joined a team of 10 engineers and medical scientists building low-cost ventilators for the Ghana government’s fight against COVID-19. – Led the electronics team (4) to design and build modular circuits for easy mounting and removal – Building the firmware (in C) that enables our atmega microcrontrollers to regulate different ventilation modes based on time, volume, pressure, or a sensitive assistive mode. – Managed, validated, and procured sensors for flagship model Stella V1 – Received a Grant from GIZ to mass produce emergency ventilators – First ventilator model awaiting testing and review by Ghana Standards Authority.   The rise of open source technology around the world has created an upsurge in maker communities across Ghana, inspiring the development of many community projects centered on IOT. There is however a variable in this story that has caused many makers in Ghana great frustrations and has even led to the discontinuity and abandonment of very bright projects: Internet Access. For every project that is deployed, a problem of accessibility is created. Developers have to provide internet access for their IOT kit. I am also a big fan of open source projects and it’s open source projects in Ghana require a lot of time, and money. The people contributing to it in our part of the world are mostly young people like myself, the amateurs are coming up with great innovations but are not in the economic position to bring most of them into fruition. So we have a lot of passive hobbyists. Phase One is to provide a cluster of Low Powered Wide Area Networks (LPWAN) for wireless battery operated Things, and building a city-wide proof of concept.
