Forum merupakan hasil gagasan dan pembahasan generasi muda sejak diinisiasi melalui Diskusi Terbatas (Focus Group Discussion) “SDGs: Generasi Muda, Gerakan Nasional Revolusi Mental, dan Penerapan Dalam Keseharian” yang diadakan Kemenko PMK pada akhir Maret 2018. Pelaksanaan FGD merupakan bagian dari Kajian SDGs 2018. Peluncuran Forum tidak sekedar peresmian, disampaikan pula paparan outline kerja Forum Pemuda untuk SDGs sekaligus menjadi momen untuk meluncurkan laman (website) Forum. Turut memberikan kata sambutan adalah Timotheus Lesmana dari Perhimpunan Filantropi Indonesia, Khaira Al Hafi selaku Ketua Forum Pemuda Nasional untuk SDGs serta Barbara Claire sebagai Panitia Peluncuran.
