I work with NHS organisations, hospices and general practices across North West England to facilitate and promote IT-enabled service re-design using patient administration systems, electronic patient records, mobile technology, telehealth and telecare. Putting patients first, I help local NHS organisations deliver better quality, innovative, productive and preventative services – by providing change management guidance and benefits realisation expertise. This allows local NHS organisations to successfully implement IM&T systems and realise the cost savings, and resource benefits of doing so. I am also a Registered Mentor with the North West Leadership Academy Mentoring Scheme. Achievements • Planned and implemented a new benefits management approach for an Acute and Primary Care Trust helping them to realise cash-releasing, non-cash releasing and qualitative benefits. • Advised regional Quality, Innovation, Productivity and Prevention Informatics leads on benefits realisation best practice, and produced a portfolio of best practice guidance and evidence for local organisations to use. • Designed and implemented a new change and benefits management approach for a hospice, allowing them to successfully redesign their services whilst implementing a new clinical IT system. • Formulated and delivered bespoke staff training packages within NHS organisations to develop benefits realisation capability. • Delivered a pan-NHS North West benefits realisation review by interviewing clinical and non-clinical staff, gathering, collating and analysing the data, and finalising the NHS North West submission for the National Annual Benefits Statement. • Business Change Manager - Clinical Lead
      • Apr 2006 - Sep 2008

I led service transformation for a complex change programme in an NHS environment, using programme/project management, business analysis, benefits realisation management; and change and improvement methods, tools and techniques. In implementing the change I motivated, negotiated and influenced colleagues to change behaviours, systems and processes. Achievements • Developed a new automated approach to collecting service outcome data for Trusts, resulting in the collection of more meaningful data to inform commissioning and service provision using IT, and less manual gathering and processing. • Developed a business change and benefits realisation framework and toolkit, focusing on early engagement and continual improvement. Based upon Lean and ISIP change management methodology, two primary care trusts used this toolkit to successfully implement new patient administration systems. • Project-managed the implementation of the ‘iPM’ electronic patient record system in two primary care trusts on time and within budget, acting as change and benefits manager during deployment. • Drove a new benefits-led implementation approach to IT system deployment, by coordinating, managing and implementing a wide ranging programme of change, service improvement and redesign successfully across the local health economy. • Advised: local Social Services and Health Services on the most appropriate IT system to address joint Social Care and Health agenda imperatives; a national training pilot on appropriate training to improve local informatics and IT programme management capability; and community services on how to identify and measure service outcomes, resulting in new business cases to support service redesign and improve patient pathways. • Service Development Manager – Primary Care Nursing/Professional Lead Practice Nursing
      • Aug 2003 - May 2006

Led and advised on nurse practitioner, practice nurse and treatment room nursing across GP practices and out-of-hours. Produced a nursing strategy; developed appropriate evidence-based policies and procedures; delivered staff training and development. Implemented new benchmarking and auditing practices; and shared best practice. Achievements • Managed eight community and GP practice satellite treatment rooms and their associated staff, delivering routine and minor injury care to patients in Blackburn and Darwen. • Redesigned the provision of treatment room services, formulating, negotiating and implementing a new charging tariff for GPs accessing these services – generating additional Trust revenue for the provision of non-core services. • Acted as nurse advisor to Higher Education Institutions in validating MA and BSc clinical programmes which were subsequently accepted by the English National Board and are now delivered across the North West. • Provided clinical advice on the Local Improvement Finance Trust Scheme, working with architects, General Practice and Trust services to explore new ways of working – which culminated in adoption of new business processes for appropriate services after the new building opened. • Developed, implemented and evaluated a new framework for appraisal, clinical supervision and continuing professional development for nurses and allied health professionals (which received very positive feedback during evaluation), whilst acting as a mentor and clinical supervisor on the scheme.
