Performing PCR and Analysis to inform and diagnose diseases, primarily Leukemia and Lymphoma. Writing SOP's for equipment and techniques, and performing and partial writing of new validations. All work necessary to maintaining a clinical laboratory especially quality assurance. Tests performed include Quantitative real time PCR analysis of BCR-ABL fusions for CML and ALL, fragment analysis and sequencing of Calreticulin and JAK2 exon 12 for other white cell proliferative disorders, Fragment analysis for B-cell and T-cell Lymphomas (IGH, IGK, TCRG, and TCRB) using the Applied Biosystems 3500 capillary electrophoresis instrument, and Microsatellite Instability by PCR using the Promega kit for fragment analysis. ECOG Leukemia Reference Lab. A tissue bank for blood and bone marrow of patients with Leukemia. I isolated mono-nuclear cells for storage as cells, and in various media for isolation of DNA, RNA, MiRNA, and Protein for down-line researchers. I also did extractions of DNA, RNA, and Protein for shipment to researchers. Administrative duties included setting up and maintaining patient records, interaction with and instruction of research nurses as to the requirements of the protocols and IRBs necessary for including patient materials, maintaining records and satisfying regulations for the lab as a clinical lab under the monitoring of NY State and CAP requirements. I have NYC fire dept. certification for Laboratory safety, and a Restricted License for Flow Cytometry / Cellular Immunology from the NYS Office of the Professions. Show less

PCR, Sequencing (A.B.I. automated sequence analyzer), computer analysis, and related projects in the location and characterization of genes and their mutations causing diseases such as Spinal Muscular Atrophy, Wilson disease, Retinitis Pigmentosum, Epilepsy, and Autism. Additionally served as a consultant for technical problems in other projects, and developed protocols for new equipment, ie pyrosequencing. Taught all graduate students and other technicians to do DNA sequencing.
