      Principal Investigator: “Micro Solutions for mega problems: Using appropriate technology to develop micro enterprises and institutions for improving livelihood security in Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve (DATR), Karnataka India, supported by Department of Science and Technology , Government of India and WWF India to SWIFT. This project is working for reducing human wildlife conflicts around Kali Tiger Reserve (formerly Dandeli-Anshi Tiger Reserve) by reducing dependency on forest products. We have introduced live fencing, energy saving equipment like fuel saving chulas, solar power, etc. Also we explored options like alternative livelihood options by promoting tuber crops in the region. (This project was funded by NC-IUCN, Tropical rain forest Program). By working on this project gained knowledge about the NTFP issues in the whole region of the Western Ghats of Karnataka. We could able to meet over 48 communities in eight hilly Districts of Karnataka, India, and collected information about more than three hundred and ten types of NTFPS used by villagers, for various uses like edible, non-edible, commercial and medicinal purposes. “Study of Honeybees in Western Ghats of Karnataka, India” (Funded by NC-IUCN). By working on this project I learned about the ecological status of honeybees in tropical forests of Western Ghats, the impact of the introduction of Apis mellifera into the hilly districts of Karnataka, the importance and present status of Honey Collectors Cooperatives Societies, etc. “Study of Joint Forest Planning and Management (JFPM) in Uttara Kannada District, Karnataka.” By working on this study I could able to gain grass root level knowledge about the implementation of DFID-funded Western Ghats Forestry Projects, in Uttara Kannada District, Karnataka.
