2023 08 03 Reference: Mr. Tony Balabanoff I have known Tony Balabanoff since 1978, when he was a Trainee Manager, under my supervision at the Riverside Holiday Inn – now Riverside Sun – in Vanderbijlpark. At this time, I found Tony to be a diligent person who showed great interest in the Hospitality Industry. In 1982, Tony was transferred to the Holiday Inn, in Harrismith, where he took on the role of Front Office Manager. During his time in Harrismith, Tony showed great Management potential in all aspects of the role. He was very diligent in the management of the financial performance of the Hotel, always ensuring that his department operated within the targets set. Tony was also very focused on his Staff, always ensuring that they were well-trained, and customer-focused. I was transferred in 1984 and left Tony at Harrismith Holiday Inn. I have followed Tony’s career with great interest and pride. I assure you that he continues to be an asset and most professional hotelier, maintaining all of the core standards needed to ensure success. If any further information is required, please do not hesitate to contact me directly. Yours sincerely Tony Rubin

Having reported to Tony for a number of years at various hotels through my career, I can certainly say that Tony is a one of a kind hotelier, mentor and leader. Through his leadership and exceptional business acumen, he has mentored a number of managers, staff and colleagues to do greater things and as a lifelong hotelier, he shows a passion for the industry like few do. His personal drive to succeed, not only in business but also in his family life - knows no bounds. His knowledge across all areas of the industry surpasses what many believe to be excellent and continues the expansion of this knowledge on a daily basis with a keen interest to always know more and stay ahead of the game. As part of the core team of the new upstart City Lodge Hotel Group that spearheaded the shake up in the South African Hotel Industry in the 80’s – he has no doubt played an integral part in the growth and expansion of the group, ensuring that the group is placed amongst the very best in the industry. He has a keen competitive edge, but also one that fosters the relationships between industry members to ensure that the South African Hotel Industry continues to be regarded as one of the very best internationally. As Tony starts to re-shape his future – we can only wish him the very best and may he continue to be a driving force within the industry going forward.
