After completing my undergraduate studies, I volunteered in Costa Rica. During this role I gained a new appreciation for the importance of a multifaceted approach to conservation, from hands-on work to engaging with the community. The living conditions were basic and very remote so it was essential to act as an effective team member. I demonstrated resilience by putting the needs of the sea turtles before my own comfort, even when facing adverse weather and biting insects. • Night-time beach patrols to monitor sea turtle activity and collect data on turtle activity, size, health and nest incubation periods. • Conducted nest re-locations where necessary to mitigate threats. • Worked within a small team in a remote location, often in adverse conditions.
