Thousand Oaks, California, United States Developed qPCR and ddPCR methods to accurately and precisely quantify viral DNA and RNA in mouse and NHP tissue samples. Lead projects to improve DNA and RNA extraction from complex samples. Created SOPs, an analyst training program, and control trending methods to ensure robust and reliable processes. Leading a team of three, we completed a pre-qualification and automated the method to process >1,000 samples per week. Assisted in designing preclinical animal studies, developing protein… Show more Developed qPCR and ddPCR methods to accurately and precisely quantify viral DNA and RNA in mouse and NHP tissue samples. Berkeley, CA Fascinated with the ecological roles of natural products, I set out to understand how Streptomyces coelicolor senses and respond to interspecies interactions, resulting in the production of multiple bioactive metabolites. I identified regulatory systems involved in this process and used molecular and RNA-seq methods to determine the regulatory connections between a unique subset of these genes. I characterization a conservon system that resembles a eukaryotic GPCR system. I identified regulatory systems involved in this process and used molecular and RNA-seq methods to determine the regulatory connections between a unique subset of these genes. I characterization a conservon system that resembles a eukaryotic GPCR system. I found that this conserved operon act as a global regulator for bioactive metabolite production, which is a regulatory system unheard of in bacteria.

San Diego CA Using complex, novel molecular biology techniques, I cloned and heterologously expressed a 22kb type II polyketide synthase gene cluster from the marine Salinispora pacifica strain in a Streptomyces host. Extracted, purified, and characterized the resulting natural product using HPLC, LC-MS, and NMR techniques.

La Jolla, CA Investigated expression profile of a cryptic natural product biosynthetic gene cluster in the marine actinomycete, Salinispora, using novel culture conditions, RNA isolation, and RT-PCR.
