Through a selective application process, these bright minds have been chosen to represent the organization because of the leadership and advocacy positions they have taken in their respective communities in the areas of traffic safety, substance abuse prevention, and personal health and safety.This year’s SLC/CAC members hail from ten different states across the country – from Louisiana to Michigan, California to Pennsylvania. The SLC/CAC spearheads the planning of the National Conference every year and serves as an overall think tank for the organization’s direction. The SADD National Student Leadership Council (SLC) plays a major role in the nationwide success of SADD. Members work directly with the SADD National staff on new and continuing projects while maintaining active leadership roles with their own local chapters. Often called upon to represent the national organization, SLC members travel to conferences, media events and task force meetings.Without exception, the members of the Student Leadership Council are accomplished individuals who have demonstrated their commitment by reaching out to peers, friends and younger students through SADD and other peer support programs. They are individuals who have exemplified the SADD model of empowerment and caregiving through involvement in community service, especially in projects relating to substance abuse prevention, highway safety, and other issues that affect youth.In addition to establishing national representation for SADD, the SLC's goals include creating a system of grassroots communication to supply information to new and existing chapters and making recommendations to the SADD National Board of Directors for priorities and issues. The initiative started in May 2013 through a collaborative effort between Peru State College, Catholic Social Services, and the Food Bank of Lincoln.Feeding 44 distributes food to those in need on the second Friday of every month and runs from 12-1 p.m. on the Peru State campus.

The coalition was founded in August 2005 and received the first round of a Drug Free Communities Grant in 2007. The Coalition received a second Drug Free Communities Grant in 2013. The Advanced Leadership Academy (ALA) empowers participants (called Project Managers) to leverage their personal leadership talents to address the social issue they select and want to impact. Project Managers are assigned to small groups lead by a Project Coach, an adult mentor who has professional and volunteer experience leading projects and engaging students. Project Coaches facilitate collaboration and student-based learning as Project Managers cultivate their leadership, entrepreneurial, and project management skills together. Project Managers (PMs) combine the social change model of leadership with their leadership strengths, and entrepreneurial and project management skills to develop their individual project action plan. After selecting the social cause they want to impact, PMs outline and document all the steps necessary to effect the change they want to see and implement in their home communities. Project Managers produce powerful social change by successfully implementing the action plans they develop at ALA. The 5-day program will immerse students in college-level curriculum based on the social change model of leadership. Student participants (called Project Managers) learn to leverage their personal leadership talents, hone their project management skills, and address social issues while earning transferrable college credit from George Mason University. They leave the Academy with a fully-developed action plan to implement in their home communities. Show less
