I moved to Astro to expand my skills and to explore more opportunities. I have always wanted to nurture the creative side of me. I joined the Digital Media department where I get to be heavily involved in the User Interface and User Experience part of Astro's offering. I deal with almost every internal team in Astro; the channels, production team, radio team, procurement, commercial team, too many to list. My day to day job was basically 50% technical where I got to do product enhancement and 50% creative operations from content production, copywriting, visual creation to even service placement. Many of my projects were with the channels. One of the many projects I worked on was with Astro Ria for Maharaja Lawak Mega where I was responsible to produce interactive content for their LIVE show, website, on TV overlays, on TV red button, quiz/game to gather engagement, and more that I can't even recall now. When I got promoted to Senior Engineer, I was in the R&D team therefore I involved in a lot of prototype development. That includes research work and million tries in development work, which helped me gathered a whole new level of interpersonal skills such as problem-solving, perseverance, teamwork, work delegation, product enhancement skill, (also good at nitpicking, haha!) and many more. I take certain accountability from A-Z of the job process and that includes drafting the proposal and delivering the presentation. My first job! I learned and developed so much in the first 3 years of my working life. Thanks to Ina-san and Mr. Muzaffar. I started as a window person between Sony EMCS Malaysia and our broadcasters. I was also the person in charge of Video On Demand services for Malaysia, Taiwan, and the Thailand market. This part of the job has helped me improve my communication and social skills. One thing that I can never forget: I went to Sony Walk-In-Interview Day where they had hundreds of candidates coming with various technical backgrounds. I came and chose to apply for one of the most chosen positions on that day, Design Engineer in R&D dept (2 vacancies only). I sit for the 1st interview with Mr. Muzaffar (the interview questions, fuhh!) lasted for about 40mins and he asked me to come back in the evening for a 2nd interview (good sign, I know). This time with him and a Japanese boss, Ina-san where they asked me more questions. When done, asked me to sit outside while they discuss (worst 5mins of my life) and Mr. Muzaffar came out of the room, took his hand out of his pocket to shake mine, and utter the best words I could hope for, "Congratulations you are hired. I will see you next Monday. " in front of a queue of candidates who were still waiting to be interviewed. One of them came to me and asked how did I do it, what did I say.The gist of what I told that person and what I would still say today is, be passionate about your passion. Show less
