My research focuses on synthesizing redox active oligonucleotides using solution and solid phase phosphoramidite chemistry. I design, synthesis and characterize novel phosphoramidite monomers for the synthesis of long DNA sequences with biological targets. My research as a Ph. D. student with Prof. Marvin Caruthers has focused on developing methodologies to synthesize novel DNA analogues and their biological characterization; It involved: Demonstrated expertise in phosphorus chemistry, synthesis, isolation and characterization of novel phosphoramidites derivatives useful for the construction of modified DNA. Minimum of five years of research experience in isolation, purification, and characterization nucleic acids. Demonstrated minimum of five years of experience in DNA synthesizers operations. Novel design and chemical synthesis of small molecules relevant to the synthesis, isolation, purification or evaluation of active DNA; i.e. linkers, substrates, monomers, protecting groups, or labels. Grow and maintain mammalian cell cultures and carry out cell transfection experiments, quantification of cell uptake by FACS, fluorescence microscopy and dual luciferase assay. Demonstrated expertise performing chemical analysis protocols, particularly those involving HPLC and UPLC methods for oligonucleotides analysis. Demonstrated expertise in using Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Strong problem solving (1H, 13C, 31P, COSY HSQC, HMBC NMR) of organic molecules and 31P for phosphoramidites and DNA. Developed an excellent communication and teamwork skills. Collaborate with researchers in BioFrontiers to synthesize organic biomolecule conjugates. Served as lab Environmental Health & Safety officer. Mentor and supervise undergraduate assistants in the lab.
