Duties : - Assisting in installing temporary exhibitions. This included writing captions, selecting objects, packing objects for movement, invigilating the exhibitions and talking to the public. - Assisting in installation of exhibitions such as the Method in the Madness exhibition. Assisting in routine object changes in existing exhibitions for conservation reasons. - Environmental monitoring across all sites - Cataloguing and accessioning new acquisitions - Meeting outside collaborators and visitors - Managing a volunteer - Several collection and documentation review projects detailed below Projects: - Modes database and Qi database review. This involved checking all records on the Qi collections management database against the Modes entries; updating and standardising the information in the records; adding images. - Reviewing the numismatics collection and compiling a report and database on Excel. This involved: making suggestions for disposal using collections management policy to inform decisions; making suggestions on improvements to storage, keeping in mind some restrains that may occur such as funding or space. I improved the storage of the numismatics, improved documentation through digitisation and research and translated some coins to improve documentation. - Reviewing collection at offsite store. This included conditions of objects and of the store itself. I managed a volunteer during this project, training them in using the collection database and retrospective cataloguing. - Archaeology Expert Eye project – This project gave me a working knowledge of some typical objects from Roman, Romano-British, and neolithic archaeological collections, as well as an awareness of how to store, document, label and curate archaeology. Skills gained: - Qi Database - Cataloguing to spectrum standards. - Handling a wide variety of objects - Environmental monitoring and standards - Installing exhibitions - Caption writing - Compiling reports - Collection reviews Show less
