      Michigan State University has federal funding to research competency-based learning, as aligned with MSU’s liberal learning objectives (http://undergrad.msu.edu/outcomes.html), in a university-wide sustainability specialization (http://sustainabilityspecialization.msu.edu/).       Pre-STEP, a joint project of the USAID with MSU, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and the Education Development Center (EDC), aims to improve the quality of primary and secondary education in Pakistan through improved teacher education in 15 Pakistani public universities, and 75 teacher eductaion colleges.Admininstrative and research responsibilities include:• Providing research and technical assistance to the PI and the project director. I have assisted in preparing project budget, establishing MSU’s hub office in Pakistan, and assisted the PI in her role which includes overall responsibility for activities with faculties of education, liaison with AED on policy and management issues, guidance on development of programs related to teacher preparation and institutional development. • I am working with a group of MSU faculty, and consultants in curriculum development, and providing leadership and in-service training to teacher educators.• I continue to provide extensive research and scholarly support on the project, including instrument (surveys, interviews and focus group protocols) construction, transcription, data analysis and dissemination of findings. I transcribed, and analyzed mixed methods data for the project baseline study, and co-wrote a report on the findings. • I worked with a group of MSU faculty to revise the first year syllabi of the new teacher education curriculum. I also developed a comprehensive 'Instructional Resources Manual', to support teacher educators in the ‘active’ implementation of the new curriculum. I developed resource materials for various workshops including; (1) the capacity building workshop for department chairs and university coordinators; and (2) 3 national research workshops.• As part of MSU’s collaboration with the Higher Education Commission, Pakistan, I revised a faculty development manual to be implemented by the master trainers of HEC’s Learning Innovation Division.
