    • Finance Manager, Credit Risk
      • Jul 2016 - Dec 2016

In returning to the company in a contract role, I became responsible for providing expert opinion on the financial due diligence of the company’s largest 2 trading partners and of other potential counterparties, based on quantitative and qualitative analysis. I subsequently identified areas of non-compliance with company risk appetite and recommended the removal of a trading partner. I also effectively managed risk exposure by monitoring credit and country risks, working with the business to identify new areas of credit risk, and led a process of systematic review. Show less

    • Finance Analyst, Credit Risk
      • Dec 2014 - Jun 2016

In this diverse position I ensured the financial due diligence of trading partners (brokers and coverholders) and other 3rd parties, and presented both quarterly credit risk analysis and associated recommendations in line with company risk appetite. I regularly delivered Board level reports on the financial and economic impact to credit risk across all business classes and geographies; working collaboratively with underwriters to adjust credit limits where appropriate. Among my achievements during this time, I enhanced data quality and reduced processing time by 50% by leading an ambitious project to automate the creation of gross premium reports. I also successfully streamlined the binding process by 30% through the definition of new credit policy incl. setting a threshold for due diligence based on the financial risk posed; this initiative was endorsed by the Broker Committee and later rolled out Europe-wide. • Jan 2014 - Dec 2014

In this key position I was responsible for the management and improvement of the finance function incl. preparation and development of monthly MI with commentary for executive lead forums and within required timescales. I led the compilation, review and editing of syndicate business forecast (SBF) narrative and annual company 3 year plan; prioritising the continuous integration of other depts. in this process. I also developed cross-functional relationships and challenged data provided by other depts. for Syndicate MI pack as compared against plan and prior year submission, and drove the achievement of timely high quality contributions from all relevant parties by implementing a robust ‘controls monitoring’ schedule within the SBF and month-end process. I conducted credit risk analysis and assessment, provided expert opinion on credit limits and risk exposures, oversaw technical accounting transactions and balances, carried out monthly review and sign-off of finance audit file, and supervised the general performance and activity of the finance team as a whole. Among my other achievements I augmented the business partnering contribution of the finance function as a whole by regularly attending case reserve committee, business unit reserve, and delegated underwriting panel meetings. I also reviewed Lloyd’s returns for accuracy and compliance, and co-chaired bi-monthly finance IT working group. Show less

    • Finance Consultant & Trustee (FTC)
      • Dec 2013 - Jan 2014

In late 2013 I was headhunted by the charity's CEO to fulfil this short term role centred on resolving identified performance issues. During my tenure I delegated action points to relevant staff and played an active role in wider staff recruitment / appraisal. I led the creation of an effective corporate review structure incl. design and development of monthly MI encompassing class KPIs, income and expenditure against budget, cashflow, and staff update of live projects. My successes also included introducing robust HR policy and procedure documentation for both UK and overseas staff, and writing / implementing a finance procedure manual from scratch. Show less

      • Jun 2012 - Dec 2013

In mid 2012 I undertook responsibility for 4 direct reports and served as finance representative during the M&A of subsidiaries and the launch of new products incl. overseeing tax requirements and cost allocation. I also served as finance representative at credit control and COO led service company governance committee meetings. Across the following 18 months I was able to deliver numerous changes and improvements including improving deadline adherence and quality of data submitted by subsidiaries, and reducing data review time from 1.5 weeks to 4 days, by creating and implementing a uniform format and robust SLAs. I developed MI which defined the profitability of service company subsidiaries on a syndicate YOA basis, and supported executive level performance reviews, including designing MI dashboard (GAAP basis).I created a standard metric to assess financial solvency of brokers, and provided quarterly support to the underwriting committees decision making on broker business performance via the MI dashboard. By identifying poor performing brokers, through the development of an escalation framework based on numerous variables, I was able to make more informed recommendations. I also assessed IAS 21 compliance and provided management with justification for functional currency choice.I identified inconsistency in the application of transfer pricing in relation to service company internal commissions and used this review data to tactically align processes for year-end reporting. I effectively aligned service company premium reporting schedule and structure with rest of the business, and increased month end efficiency by designing robust controls over bank reconciliations for 27 accounts.
