      Project composed of working in a graduate-level research laboratory analyzing RNA sequencing to find novel RNA sequences in soil bacteria. Extensive experience working with and using laboratory equipment and techniques including PCR amplification & gel electrophoresis. During this project team members and myself worked on designing primers targeting specific gene sequences and used BLAST technology to identify the lineage and species of the microbe. The project was presented at Friendly Eyes Science Conference (Fall 2016) at Georgia State University Research facility. Skills learned and used during this experience include; In-depth understanding of RNA and DNA sequencing, the ability to use primers for amplification and specific gene sequence selection, inoculation and streak-plate techniques to grow and isolate bacterial colonies, extensive use of PCR amplification, gel electrophoresis, use of centrifuge and other separation techniques, NCBI BLAST technology. Constructed a formal written report on the data and findings from this research, which was then formatted into a poster and presented to fellow science staff and students.
