I met Branko in 2002 when my team, responsible for systems engineering, had lack of Microsoft Windows and Exchange knowledge and had a lot of troubles and unconsolidated (even confusing) Windows environment. When he joined us, as an already developed expert (certified teacher for Microsoft systems engineering program), he took over control of our growing Windows domain and corporate e-mail infrastructure and in several months we found our environment consolidated and under effective control. He improved significantly our client security as well. In the next period, he established new Microsoft Exchange clustered environment so good that several years there was no any disruption nor outage. It was our best cluster very long time. He has very thorough approach to the projects and system design taking into considerations the real business needs and successfully meeting the goals even when the requirements are not well defined. He was (and still is) very open to different technologies (he is not "just one more Microsoft guy"). He has implemented open source monitoring system, for 24x7 monitoring of many systems, including billing, Active directory, Oracle databases, a lot of web servers based on IIS and Apache and corporate e-mail, which was pragmatic and cheap solution, that helped us to avoid a lot of system outage risks and improved our systems availability. That system (though very old) is still functional after 8 years and notifications are still efficient (preventive and real, not spam). Though most of us considered him as a Microsoft expert, he was also one of the best Linux administrators, very good security expert and also very good data center facilities manager. After few years working in the team, he was promoted in manager for systems engineering responsible for the operating systems (Unix/Linux and Windows), databases (Oracle and SQL Server), storage systems, fiber channel network, corporate e-mail infrastructure and active directory including internal DNS and DHCP and data center facilities. As a responsible manager, he introduced several new technologies, including blade servers, Oracle GRID and virtualization. When he left our company in 2007, we faced a lot of troubles again, not in the operational stability (as it was already settled well) but in the current and planned projects. After several years work in Microsoft, I consider him as an authority for IT infrastructure technologies including virtualization and cloud solutions. I strongly recommend him for strategic and conceptual consulting for any IT infrastructure plans, projects and issues.
