New materials featuring ordered internal structures at the nanometre scale often possess extraordinary properties. Unfortunately, such internal features can be prohibitively small and complex to precisely characterize resulting in limited understanding of their functional relationships and limited scope for design directed approaches for development. My specific research is on high pressure torsion Al-Mg alloy and its strengthening mechanisms by using atom probe microscopy. APM breaks down the alloy atom by atom so that the intergranular structures could be studied. with suitable computing technique and data reconstruction program more properties from the alloy could be explored.
