Over the Transom is a studio specializing in residential design and architectural research. The studio's work is based on an idea that architecture is flexible - buildings are constituents of an ecosystem, and they should respond to the dynamic ecological forces acting on them in such a way as to better their environmental conditions and civic relations. Our origins spring from research in conceptual Architecture and Urban Planning, particularly the necessity for citizens to actively engage their built environment. The physicality of citizenship is a positive environmental force acting to better the worlds we construct - from a domestic spaces to our shared civic spaces. From this position of bottom up structure, our name derives meaning from the phrase expressive of the unsolicited nature of our work, that we extent into the essence of our design work.
