As a Dow Jones News Fund business intern, I attended the week-long DJNF bootcamp in New York City before I began my internship at the Charlotte Observer's biz desk. This program selects only 27 students nationally to participate in the business reporting cohort. The Carolina Agency is an in-house PR firm at the University of South Carolina's School of Journalism and Mass Communications. As a part of the insights team, I performed social media audits for clients in order for them to understand how their social media functions within the online marketing environment. I also provided other services including competitor analyses, audience analyses, demographic studies and more. My clients included companies like Greenlight, SC State Treasury, Rhodes Branding, and local organization Leeza's Care Connection. Show less

    • Outreach Director
      • Aug 2022 - Dec 2022

As Outreach Director for the Fall '22 semester, I helped recruit and train over 100 new writers for our organization. I oversaw our engagement team and worked to improve our social coverage. I also worked with an outsourced design and production company to make TDG some new merch! For our senior staff, I helped boost morale and team-building with fun activities that allowed the staff to get to know each other better. We made word clouds that allowed staff members to anonymously compliment each other, and ended the semester with secret santa. I coordinated food for staff celebrations and training as well. • Opinion Editor
      • May 2021 - Aug 2022

As Opinion Editor for The Daily Gamecock, I lead a section of about 8-10 writers and created content 5 days a week for our newsletter. I edited writers' content to comply with TDG style and AP style. I also edited for correct grammar, strong argument, and fact checked all articles as well. I managed a two-week budget of content and made sure all writers met their assigned deadline for newsletter publication. And once per week I lead a section meeting for updates on content and mini writing lessons for new writers. With help from other section editors, I coordinated our columns with sports and news articles to make TDG newsletters cohesive and well-rounded. I reduced the amount of lifestyle content and "list-icles" the opinion section produced, and greatly increased our news coverage. Our Fall '21 editorial won first-place column from the South Carolina Press Association. My spring '22 feature on an art vending machine won first-place Arts and Culture story from the South Carolina Press Association. Show less

    • Assistant Opinion Editor
      • Jan 2021 - May 2021

Before I took over the opinion section, I learned the ropes of organizational leadership for a semester as the assistant opinion editor, shadowing and working with the main editor. During this semester I helped lead section meetings, edited a couple columns a week and helped the editor manage the budget.

    • Staff Writer
      • Aug 2019 - Dec 2020

For my first year and a half of college, I was what TDG calls a "fullstaff" writer for the opinion and news sections. I wrote about one article every week or two and learned from my editors to help improve my writing. Although I later climbed the ranks of our senior staff, I continued writing for our newsletters in the opinion and arts and culture sections after my time on fullstaff.

During my time interning remotely for As Well As (formerly The Well Collective,) I communicated with their social media followers and offered incentives for them to shop in the boutique. Over the summer, I worked in-person to create their email marketing campaigns and content for their Instagram and TikTok. I also maintained the boutique, selling products to customers and answering questions about merchandise. My summer internship with The Scout Guide allowed me to travel to Charleston and assist the two editors with photoshoots with clients. While I was away from Charleston I interacted with customers via social media and wrote short newsletter articles for The Scout Guide website.
