Setting: Acute Care, Medical-Surgical Unit, Critical Care Unit, Emergency DepartmentPrimary Population: Adult and GeriatricUnder the direct supervision of Lindsay Mohring-Thompson OTR/L, I completed co-evaluations and co-treatments for patients with a variety of cardiopulmonary disorders and orthopedic conditions. During my 12-week rotation at this facility, I worked with 4-5 patients per day while mainly rotating between the Medical-Surgical and Critical Care Units. I was also responsible for collaborating with other medical professionals, social workers, and case managers in reference to patient care, as well as promoting safety and communicating the role of OT in this specific setting. The main interventions utilized in this setting included ADLs to help patients safely achieve a maximum level of independence prior to discharge.

Setting: Post-Acute Rehabilitation HospitalPrimary Population: Adult and Geriatric While under the supervision of JoAnn Schaeffer OTR/L, I treated patients with a variety of musculoskeletal and neurocognitive disorders. Throughout my 12 weeks in this setting, I was responsible for the treatment of 5-6 patients per day while collaborating with other medical professionals in regard to patient care, as well as promoting safety and communicating the role that OT plays in this particular setting. A variety of interventions including the use of adaptive equipment, functional transfers, safe ADL techniques, and additional meaningful occupations were utilized to help patients achieve their maximum level of independence prior to discharge.
