Eelco Leemans

Atlanta was co-ordinator of Ses At Risk from Oct 2001-April 2004. During this period SAR's office was in the same building and we worked together a great deal. AtIanta recruited new members to the SAR federation, organised Board Meetings and completed 3 successful core funding applications to the EC DG ENV. A special event was the organisation of a 2-day SAR board meeting on a traditional Dutch sailing barge. Atlanta made a real effort to turn this into a succesful event, combining outdoor activity and structured meetings.

Sam Fanshawe

Atlanta is a well-organised co-ordinator and environmental professional with a dynamic, positive attitude and personable approach that brings different groups and individuals together to develop practical solutions and collaborative initiatives.

Beacon Hub Brighton has signed 15 year rent free full repairing lease on a disused 18-hole golf course kiosk and 34 space car park next to Beacon Hill Local Nature Reserve from Brighton & Hove City Council (BHCC). BHB & BHCC are working collaboratively in a 'friends of' arrangement to integrate 2/3 of the golf course in to the neighbouring Local Nature Reserve and include its management in BHCC’s Higher Land Stewardship (HLS) agreement. For the remaining 1/3 of the golf course BHB have created an advisory group from the local community to design an archaeologically and ecologically sensitive, practical, interesting and beautiful outdoor area for public amenity, conservation, heritage and arts education. BHB will convert the existing golf kiosk in to a 35 capacity classroom, kitchen/kiosk, office and public toilet. The building plans created by the BHB volunteer building team (local architect Kinga Hoffman, surveyor David F Smith and structural engineer) have been accepted by South Downs National Park Authority and BHCC. BHB aims to be a coastal gateway to the newly designated Brighton & Lewes Downs Biosphere and will work collaboratively with this project to conserve, promote and enhance the new Biosphere. BHB are devising a nature conservation, archaeology, heritage, arts & well-being education programme for schools, a weekend 'eco hub' children’s club, a community education programme, and fund-raising events. The education programmes will focus on equipping existing and future generations with knowledge of the science behind conservation practises, plus the practical technology and arts skills they will need to protect and enhance the neighbouring Beacon Hill Local Nature Reserve, archaeological site (Long Barrow & Dew Pond), heritage site (Rottingdean Windmill) and Marine Conservation Zone (Beachy Head West rMCZ 13.2). www.beaconhubbrighton.org Show less

We take direct action every 1st Sunday of the month to reduce the plastics pollution on our beaches through community beach cleans in Ovingdean, Rottingdean & Saltdean. We educate the children in our communities about the harm litter and sewage related debris (SRD) does to our environment and the living creatures that depend on it. We are registered Marine Conservation Society Sea Champions and are MCS Beachwatch Organisers for the quarterly national beach litter surveys. We also participate in and promote Marine Conservation Society and Surfer's Against Sewage beach cleans. www.facebook.com/thedeansvolunteers Show less

I was asked to join the voluntary Board of Directors after I successfully co-ordinated a campaign that finally pushed through planning permission for the water treatment works at Baggy Point, Croyde, North Devon. I resigned after the birth of my daughter restricted my ability to attend board meetings.
