The final goal of treating a vector-borne disease is the development of effective antiviral treatment and vaccines. In the field of Virology and Vaccine development, I am taking an adventure with research with highly pathogenic avian Influenza A and SARS-CoV-2 viruses, investigating their surface glycoproteins, genomic mutations and recombination events as an essential trait of RNA virus evolution. The frontier in neuroscience focus on developing an adequate treatment of neurodegenerative disease. I had the privilege to manage two projects in Alzheimer's disease and Frontotemporal dementia. I coordinated the full experimental cycle ahead of schedule, created reports, and designed and managed an insect laboratory facility. I had experience with drug screening, guided undergraduate and graduate medical students, secured a 200k research grant, and produced 3 scientific publications as the first and the corresponding author. I provided the experiment management with responsibilities to include implementing molecular biology tools and technologies, secured 50k lab grants. I planned out the experiment from concept through execution with a focus on improving and editing laboratory protocols and methods. I ensured experiment accuracy by guiding graduate students through the proper protocols. I was engaged in the study of the olfactory system in D. melanogaster (single sensillum recordings). Antibiotic production is one of the key mechanisms I wanted to explore when involved with biotechnology. Here, I was fascinated and engaged with pharmacological tools to produce Lipid-based active molecules. I optimized and assessed Lipstatin fermentation, edited genes, expressed protein, and tested enzymatic activities. I used tools and techniques for bacterial protein expression and recombinant protein characterization.
